Challenge Wales athletes boost Sea Trust Wales Funds

Organisers of the first ever Challenge Wales, Activity Wales Events, recently attended the Sea Trusts Wales HQ, on behalf of Challenge Wales athletes, to present the organisation with a cheque for £1,000.

During registration, all athletes were asked to provide an optional donation to the charity, who’s primary goal is to help local communities understand and safeguard local marine wildlife. These donations came in thick and fast with a substantial sum being raised. This was topped up by AWE to reach the £1,000 mark.

Sea Trust Wales is a marine wildlife conservation charity based in Pembrokeshire. Their mission is to encourage local people to take care of their marine wildlife. They do this by conducting ground-breaking scientific research, raising awareness of marine wildlife and conservation issues, educating the public and contributing to the conservation management of the marine environment.

Holly Dunn, Project Officer at Sea Trust Wales had the following to say at the recent cheque presentation:

"We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with Activity Wales Events this year for Challenge Wales. These events bring a great deal to the area and really show off what we have to offer here in Fishguard and Goodwick. It’s such an honour to be chosen as AWE’s charity for this event, the money raised by the athletes will have a great impact on the work we can do, having a positive effect on our local marine wildlife. We are very much looking forward working with AWE in the future."

AWE work across multiple platforms to assist charities and organisations from all over the world, and this new athlete/organiser initiative highlights the strong relationships that are forged through sports tourism.

Oliver Duckett PGA, Global Relations Manager at AWE expressed his thanks following the recent meeting:

“Seatrust Wales’s HQ is just yards from our finish line and establishing a strong working relationship with them has always been a top priority for us. The work that Seatrust Wales do is paramount to the legacy and long-term protection of our local marine wildlife and we cannot thank our athlete’s enough for supporting them with these vital donations. We host races all across the globe, working closely with charities and organisations to give something back. To be able to make this kind of donation, on behalf of our athletes, in our own back yard, means a lot to us. We are already looking forward to working closely with Sea Trust and their amazing team to maximise the opportunities of this key partnership.”

Challenge Wales is the focal point of 3 days of racing in the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Hosted by the popular terminal port of Fishguard and Goodwick towns, the event is preceded by the Fishguard Swim on Friday evening and followed by the Fishguard Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, so there’s something for everyone come race weekend. Our global partners Red Bull, Wahoo and Abus are in attendance to ensure a complete and memorable experience for both athletes and spectators alike.
