Announcing the latest addition to the LCW calendar

The Long Course Weekend, established in Wales in 2010, now welcomes over 50,000 people to Wales annually and has proven to be one of the fastest growing events in Europe.

The event began its expansion programme 4 years ago and New Zealand will be the 6th destination to host the popular endurance event.

The event will be hosted in Karapiro, a 2hr drive from Auckland, 1 hour from Rotarua and only 30 mins from Hamilton. The Weekend chosen is Waitangi Independence Weekend on February 5,6 and 7th 2022.

Matthew Evans, CEO of Long course Weekend says:

“We are very excited to announce our latest addition to the LCW family. Not only because of the spectacular location, but also the team at Event Promotions really fit the DNA of the Long Course Weekend. Their passion for the sport and the community is incredible and our International athletes are in for a real taste of New Zealand.”

Murray Flemming Says:

“Event Promotions are excited and privileged to have the opportunity to bring the world renowned Long Course Weekend event to New Zealand. I have been operating events in New Zealand for the past thirty years, hosting around 45,000 competitors annually. We operate a variety of road cycling, running and obstacle races within new Zealand including the Rotorua Marathon for Athletics New Zealand. The LCW is a new and exciting venture and my whole team are buzzing about having this as part of our portfolio. The Long Course Weekend NZ is to be based at Lake Karapiro with the support of the Waipa District Council in the Waikato district of New Zealand. This venue / district is the base for many national sports including rowing and cycling and is only 1.5 hours from Auckland, the major city in New Zealand and the gateway to the world."

"We look forward to hosting the event in February next year with a majority of local competitors but very much looking forward to 2023 where hopefully the world has some normality and we can host and introduce athletes from all over the world to this amazing weekend.”
