Challenge Wales entries more than double for 2024

Challenge Wales, the stunning middle-distance triathlon taking place in the Pembrokeshire National Park on Saturday 9^th June, has received 1000 entries for 2024, more than doubling its 2023 numbers.

Boasting a breathtaking closed road run, as well as a fast and challenging closed road bike course, West Wales will be the place to be this summer for a feast of middle-distance triathlon racing.

Organisers Activity Wales Events (AWE) has worked closely with the local communities and stakeholders to continually improve both the athlete and spectator experience.

New for 2024, local establishments will be activating bars and activities along the run route to ensure spectators are well looked after during the event. The world-famous finish line will offer an Expo, food trucks, live music, massages, and bar, ensuring the atmosphere is pumping from the first athlete to the last.

CEO of AWE, Matthew Evans, commented: “Fishguard triathlon has always held a special place in our hearts and putting Challenge Wales on the map as one of the premier middle-distance events not only in the UK but in Europe, was a key priority.

“With a closed road bike and run course, local business integration and huge community support from the towns of Fishguard, Goodwick, St. Davids, and a host of smaller villages on the routes, it really has made for a standout event on the calendar.”

He continued: “Our team’s philosophy of ensuring the spectator experience levels are met has been key to this success and this is only possible with the incredible local buy in to the event. Ensuring supporters are well looked after, whilst their loved ones are on the course has been a major contributing factor to the increase in race entries, with AWE continually looking at new ways to engage, enthuse and energise support crews and local crowds.”

Challenge Wales will take place on Saturday 9^th June 2024 against the backdrop of Fishguard Harbour, known for its regular dolphin and whale spotting opportunities and comprises a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile cycle and 13.1-mile run. A sprint distance has also been made available to ensure all levels of athletes are catered for.
