The Wales Sportive Race Profile

The Wales Sportive Race Profile

Info on the route:

Athletes set off from The Saltern's in Tenby, before heading out across the county for an incredibly scenic, but challenging ride.  Athletes will travel across the coast and countryside of the county, experiencing first-class views of the UK's only Coastal National Park, with incredible encouragement throughout from supporters. The Saundersfoot section of the route features the King of the Hill challenge, where spectators will see the best climbers in action. The Wales Sportive provides an excellent day for all involved; athletes, spectators and volunteers.

Why should I take part?

The Wales Sportive takes place on day two of Long Course Weekend Wales. Athlete can choose from three distances; 40 miles, 70 miles or 112 Miles, all of which travel across the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire in West Wales. Each of the distances will begin and end at the race village location; The Saltern's. New changes for 2023 have seen TT bikes reintroduced and E-bikes introduced for the 40 mile distance, adding more inclusivity to an already very inclusive weekend of sport. In addition to a new hybrid road closure system.

Athlete reviews:

"This was an outstanding race. From the outset, the organisation and the helpfulness form the Marshals and staff was great...I was so happy to have taken part in this event. The marshals at the aid stations were quality!!! And local support like nothing I've ever seen! I'll be back!" Damien, M. 2019.

"This event was organised superbly from start to finish...the finish into Tenby was incredible with people lining the streets and cheering, followed by a great medal...Highly recommended event, as a stand-alone or as part of the Long Course Weekend." Cara S. 2019.

First Timers:

• Get all of your kit and equipment organised prior to the event.
• Start to fuel your body with the right food the week before
• Don’t try new products or methods on the day of the event – stick with fuelling products and sporting practices that you know and are comfortable with.
• Bananas are a great pre-race snack, but be careful you don’t overload before the swim for your own safety.
• Get to know the event rules in plenty of time. These are to ensure the safety and fairness of all athletes.
• Take full advantage of resources – read up before the event and attend any first timer or pre-race briefings that have been organised.
