AWE RACE SCHEDULE 2020 – Force Majeure Cancellation/Rescheduling due to the Coronavirus – COVID19 Epidemic/Pandemic

We’re writing to regrettably notify you that in view of the recent requirements and guidance issued by the government in respect of the Coronavirus pandemic, that we have no alternative other than to rearrange our race delivery schedule for 2020.

Whilst we are mindful that a significant number of other sporting events have already been cancelled this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it has not made this decision any easier for us. We are devastated having invested a significant amount of time, money and resource into planning our events, and many of you will undoubtably have been training hard and, like us, were looking forward to the event.

However, we have liaised closely with key stakeholders and are mindful of the need to stringently follow the government’s advice when dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic. These are quite clearly unprecedented times for all of us, and our ultimate priority must always be to act in the best interests of the competitors, the local community and in particular the Local Health Board.

Seeing nearly our entire race schedule decimated has been heart-breaking for everyone involved. After 10 years of building races in some beautiful parts of Wales, our hearts go out to you our athletes and the local communities that host our events.

Emergency services, volunteers and community integration are key to delivering top end events and without them it is impossible to do so.

Whilst every attempt has been made to find suitable alternative dates it has not been possible for all events.

We understand that everyone is under huge amounts of pressure and stress at this time and mental health and wellbeing is going to be tested like never before. Many are working around the clock to look after the health of the nation and we believe that we will have a small part to play when the green shoots of recovery start showing.

The Following changes will take place with immediate effect:

1) Swansea Triathlon – 31/5/20 – Race Withdrawn and all entries deferred to 2021. Date to follow and race entries will be automatically transferred.

2) Wales Triathlon / Fishguard Sprint – 13/06/20 – Race Rescheduled. New Date 01/08/20

3) Long Course Weekend Wales – 3-5/07/20 – Information to be sent in a separate correspondence

4) Gower Triathlon – 25/7/20. Race Withdrawn and all entries deferred to 2021. Date to follow and race entries will be automatically transferred.

5) Wales Swim Run – 01/08/20 - Race Withdrawn and all entries deferred to 2021. Date to follow and race entries will be automatically transferred.

Can we thank you for your understanding and continued support. This is a time where we have to support Government legislation and the health of the nation.

As a small, family company, we’ve all had many sleepless nights, as have many, which we are sure will continue for the foreseeable future. We understand that everyone is under a huge amount of pressure and stress and we sincerely hope and pray that life will return to normal as soon as possible for us all.

Regards

Matt, Scott, Ollie, Charlotte and Nia.
