TT bikes return to the Wales Sportive this July

TT bikes are to make a return to The Wales Sportive this coming July.

TT bikes were originally banned from the event in 2018 when the road closures came in to play.  Initially it was for safety as the organisers monitored how riders would move about on closed roads in pelotons.

Matthew Evans says “We are delighted to welcome back TT bikes to the event.  We are now confident we can re-introduce TT bikes back into the Wales Sportive.  If athletes are riding on their TT bars they will not be allowed to draft, but we are confident we can now police this safely.

We are delighted as this year we have a new Grandstand finish for all athletes too, taking the event to yet another level.

In addition, the organisers are allowing the introduction of e-bikes on the 40-mile route.  This is to encourage new athletes to the sport of cycling and allow them to witness the atmosphere around the course and on the finish line.

Matthew continues “Our legacy programme is supporting younger athletes throughout the county and introducing ebikes to a non-competitive event, simply adds to the inclusion of an already highly inclusive 3 days of sport.”
