2XU Extend Exclusive Partnership to Welcome Challenge Wales

The team at Activity Wales Events are delighted to announce long term partners 2XU will take title association of the brand-new Challenge Wales event.

The 2XU Challenge Wales will be hosted by the 70.3 Wales Triathlon course which has been established in Fishguard for the past 8 years and this year will take place on Saturday 18th June.

2XU need no introduction to the triathlon world and their expert team will be showcasing a full portfolio of their award-winning range across all platforms of the race weekend.

Mike Martin, GM of 2XU EMEA had the following to say:

“The sport of Triathlon is where it all started for 2XU and to this day it remains our passion. Triathlon is the perfect marriage of technology and performance. It’s the sport that inspires us every day, so it’s important for us to work with the best athletes and events out there to test our products.

2XU have worked with the AWE team for many years we were excited to hear that they were launching Challenge Wales. Having been part of many of their events previously, we know that they will deliver an exceptional performance to ensure that all those taking part have fun and reach their finish lines.”

As always, this will be a huge show for the AWE team and the local community which has emersed themselves in this event over the years and made it their own. The red-carpet finish line has become a worldwide phenomenon with electric crowds and a unique festival feel.

Looking to race alongside your heroes? 2XU Challenge Wales will amass one of the largest and most competitive Pro Fields ever seen in the UK, providing the perfect opportunity to compete alongside the best in the industry.

The 2XU Challenge Wales Course

The 1.9km swim takes place in Fishguard Bay which is protected by a breakwater on both sides. The two-lap swim enables swimmers to exit the water to large crowds before re-entering the water for a second and final lap.

The 90km bike begins with a steady 5km ascent before a fast section all the way to the country’s smallest city, St David’s, with its enthusiastic spectator support. Leaving St David’s there are stunning sea views of the Atlantic Ocean before climbing into Trefin and Mathry and back to the city of St David’s before returning to T2.

The scenic four-lap 21.2km run is along a paved coastal track that includes the town's breakwater with breath-taking sea views.

Matthew Evans, CEO of Challenge Wales:

“We are delighted to continue and develop our working partnership with Mike and his Team at 2XU.  The energy and passion they bring to events is something we have always admired and their product line has always been a “stand out” in the sports world.  Challenge Wales will certainly change the face of middle distance racing in the UK and already we have a record Pro field in Wales which I am sure will light up the streets of West Wales come June 18th.”

The event this year will be preceded by the Fishguard Swim on Friday evening and followed by the Fishguard Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, so there’s something for everyone come race weekend. Our global partners RedBull, Wahoo and Abus will also be in attendance to ensure a complete and memorable experience for both athletes and spectators alike.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the first edition of 2XU Challenge Wales.
