Why you should take part:-

Pembrokeshire plays host annually to one of the most difficult triathlons in Wales – the Long Course Weekend. This unique event lasts three days in mid-July, accommodating some of the best triathlon talent in the UK and the world, including a number of IRONMAN UK athletes, serving as the perfect preparation and build up to the IRONMAN Wales event in September.

To kick-off the weekend on Friday evening, the Long Course athletes have The Wales Swim to complete – a 2.4 mile swim that takes place on Tenby’s North Beach. On Saturday their attention turns to The Wales Sportive, and 112 miles of undulating Welsh countryside lined with enthusiastic crowds. To finish the weekend, the athletes have the small task(!) of completing the 26.2 miles of The Wales Marathon, which is quickly establishing itself as a fantastic event in its own right.

More than 20,000 competitors have attempted the difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions on this punishing route since its first event in 2010. Of last year’s 1000 Long Course Weekend athletes, only around half could manage to cross the finish line and collect the final piece of the event’s unique medal design.

What our athletes had to say:-

‘Activity Wales and the Long Course Weekend are just amazing.

Tenby was a perfect location and the house we rented was right in the centre of town but 2 mins walk from the end of both the ride and marathon finish. Book early!

The swim was fabulous. Far less daunting that I had been led to expect. Pan flat seas and only a few (very large) Jelly Fish but nothing to worry about (this year anyway).

The Sportive (112 mile ride) was epic but again not as hard as I had been led to believe. Some of the hills are tough for sure and twice up Wisemans and St Brides is tough but certainly doable. The scenery is second to none though for sure.

The Marathon on the 3rd day was in places brutal. Long steep climbs but the best memory for me was passing the start of the Half Marathon in Pembroke and being clapped by hundreds of people (who promptly passed me 10 minutes later) – EPIC.

We travelled with about 15 fellow team members also entered into either the full LCW or various shorter distance events each day and all had a really spectacular time swim bike and running together.

The finale of receiving the 4th medal was also superb. Name called out, lining up along the finish shoot and cheering the winnrrs was the icing onthe cake and certainly not to be missed as it is the closure event of the weekend.

Of course post race celebrations were enjoyed by us all.

Overall an epic event and a great way to race a full distnace with friends and have a really amazing experience.

I cannot rate it highly enough and want to thank Activity Wales for faultless marshalling and support and my fellow athletes for a great weekend.’ Rob Elliott 2017

After completing a couple of half marathons I wanted to go for the full distance.. so for my 40th birthday weekend I chose the Tenby LCW Marathon it was hot & hilly but the crowds (& my lovely family) were behind us all the way. Probably not the easiest 26.2 miles to run for your first crack but with the help of the volunteers handing out cups of water & jelly babies it was worthwhile! Thanks for the memories Tenby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
