Our 2017 UK Triathlon Year

So our UK race year has come to an end and we finish in the same location we started, in Mumbles.
After rolling up the red carpet and taking down the flags for the last time in 2017 we got to thinking, about the great events that we had this year, great athletes , supporters, volunteers and weather (for Wales).

We started in March with Mumbles Duathlon, it isn’t quite warm enough to take a dip in the sea. So athletes took on a run. bike, run course around scenic mumbles including two different distances to choose from, the long course is a 5k run, 32k bike and a 5k run and the short course comprises of an achievable 5k run, 21k bike and 3k run.

Swansea Triathlon was in March and drew in around 1200 athletes. They hit the city centre course and cross the finish line in castle square to rows of supporters on the steps. The course is one distance of 750m swim, 20k cycle and a 5k run.
Swansea Triathlon has a very impressive amount of supporters and spectators all around the course.

Long Course Weekend took place in Tenby, Pembrokeshire on the 13th, 14th and 15th of July. The three distances were spread over 3 days, athletes did a 1.2 or 2.4 mile swim, with amazing crowds lining the railing overlooking the beach. The next day the athletes take on either 112, 66 or 45 mile cycle around picturesque Pembrokeshire.
Sunday is the final and run day of the LCW Wales, which includes The Wales Marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k. The Marathon day in this year had glorious weather and roaring crowds surrounding Tenby’s Tudor Square to the finish line!

July 29th saw The Wales Triathlon take place is Fishguard including a sprint and middle distance, which is known as a tough, tough course to take on.
This challenge was undertaken by around 400 athletes, the run course route heads out to the beautiful breakwater which is definitely a different aspect to any other event and is one you’ll want to experience.

September 2017 has Triathlons on consecutive weekends and so many athletes decided to take on both. On the 9th was Saundersfoot Sprint Triathlon, it was a fast paced event around the idyllic coastal village of Saundersfoot. It proved to be a perfect events, sought after for athletes down to take on or down to watch the Iron Man Wales Event the following day.
