On the 7th of October, the last event of our UK Triathlon season took place, right where it started, in Mumbles.
With over 700 athletes registered the wet weather did not deter them. Our Mumbles Triathletes arrived bright eyed and busy tailed to tackle a range of distances around the scenic course in Mumbles.

The three distances included a Super Sprint which entailed a 750m swim, 21k cycle and 2.5k run, a Sprint which included a 750m swim, 32k cycle and 5k run, the third distance for the Mumbles Triathlon was a middle distance, 1.9k swim, 90k cycle and a 21k run.

The morning of the event saw some not ideal triathlon weather add to the athletes challenge but come the afternoon our middle distance athletes had sun shine down on their half marathon!

This was the first year for the middle distance in Mumbles and a great crowd took it on, many having this event signify the end of their triathlon season.

Our champions featured some familiar faces and some new with this event holding many experiences triathletes and many first timers, which made for a fantastic atmosphere!
Despite the weather the supporters lined the slip way and surrounding area making a audience full of cheers as the atheltes descended into the water, and the cheers did not let up throughout.

Our Mumbles Triathlon winners were as follows…
Super Sprint:
Kate Humphreys took 1st female in the Super Sprint with a time of 1:23:55 and 1st male was Andrew Deans with an impressive time of 1:11:11!

Sprint:
Our Sprint distance male champion was Ross Simpson, taking another Activity Wales Events win to add to his collection with a time of 1:23:50, 2nd male in the sprint distance was Brendan Crawford finishing with a great time of 1:25:04 and in third place for the men was Paul Jones finishing in 1:33:36.
The female sprint distance winners were, in 1st place Hannah Munday with a time of 1:34:26,in 2nd place Megan Withers finishing in 1:40:07 and close behind in 3rd place was Jennifer Harvey crossing the finish line in 1:51:45.
The relay champions of the Spritn distance were ‘Team Looking Forward to a Rest’ finishing with a time of 1:25:39.

Middle Distance:
This is the first year this distance has taken place in Mumbles Triathlon and the competition for the winning spots was tight!
The winning male in 1st place for the Mumbles Triathlon Middle distance was Craig Burrows with a time of 4:53:18, close behind Craig in 2nd place was Tom Coe finishing in 4:56:27 and in 3rd place came Craig Patterson with a time of 5:06:38.
Our female champion of the Middle Distance in 1st place minutes behing Craig Patterson was Ellen Murphey crossing the finish line with a time of 5:10:24, in 2nd place came Emma Richards finishing in 5:49:07 and in third place behind Emma came Vickie Woodsford with a time of 5:59:03.
Our winning relay team of the Mumbles Triathlon Middle distance was ‘Team Cr@p Tri’ with a time of 4:49:30!

Thats a wrap on our UK Triathlon season, still to come we have Long Course Weekend Mallorca and Jervis Bay, if we won’t see you there then we hope to see you in March for Mumbles Duathlon 2018 where we kick off the next race season…we are counting down the days!
