Pembrokeshire Sprint Distance announced

Activity Wales Events, the team that deliver both The Long Course Weekend and Ocean Lava World Series  in Pembrokeshire, today launched a sprint distance race that will be part of the Ocean Lava event on August 2nd.

Set in Fishguard, the swim is in the stunning Fishguard Bay; surrounded by breakwaters, the calm sea really encourages fast times and is ideal for the novice open water athlete.  A 13 mile bike leg to Mathry and back is simple and quite fast.  The run takes in the paved coast path to Lower Town Fishguard, which is simply stunning, then climbs Slade Hill to the crowds and closed roads of Fishguard town centre.  The race finishes on the Activity Wales Events red carpet and an incredible atmosphere.

Scott Powell – Race Director at the Ocean Lava event says – “The middle distance was a huge success last year, winning the 220 Triathlon of the Year award.  Some of the feedback we had was athletes supporting really wanted to experience the incredible atmosphere in Fishguard, but were not quite ready for a half distance event.  Looking at the logistics, we were able to build the sprint event into the programme”.

Matthew Evans of Activity Wales Events says – “It is the final piece in the jigsaw for the county.  We now have Go Tri, Sprint, Olympic, Middle and Full distance racing in Pembrokeshire, plus the unique Long Course Weekend and The Wales Full and Half Marathon.”
