Olympic Silver Medalist to Swim in Home Waters!

Activity Wales Events are happy to confirm that David Davies, an Olympic Silver Medalist will take up the position as “The Hare” at The Wales Swim this coming July.

David says – “I’m honoured and excited to be involved with the swim this year. It will be my first open water swim in Wales and I’m looking forward to being part of something special that will attract many people to take part”

The Wales swim attracts over 1000 swimmers from all over the World to swim in the UK’s cleanest waters.  Being the same swim as The Ironman Wales event, many athletes use this as a practice event to hone sighting skills.

Last years event attracted 42% of first time open water swimmers too – giving new people to the sport an incredible experience.

It is the opening event of The Longcourse Weekend and this years event see’s a Junior Open Water Swimming Champs included on the same day.

Scott Powell of Activity Wales Events says “David is a great ambassador for Wales and Open Water Swimming and we are delighted to have him on board.  He will also be working closely with us on developing a few open water swimming clinics and advice panels. Without doubt he will add a lot to the event and his eagerness to help juniors develop really fits with our legacy strategy.”
